YOUTH CONFIRMATION
The Youth Confirmation Class is open to anyone in 8th through 12th grade. Normally the point of programs like this are to "become a member of the church" - and while these classes are a prerequisite to become a member here at Good Sam, the Youth Confirmation Class concentrates more on the basics of the faith and church history. This allows the class to be more of a "exploring Christianity " and gives more attention to firming up the students' understanding of the foundation of our faith.
The class meets during the discipleship hour each Sunday in the Spring semester. Each week we enjoy a small breakfast together and then get into the lesson. We use a "guest teacher" model where we have different members of our congregation come in and teach the weekly lessons. When that teaching schedule is locked in, we will post it here on the site. This model allows for the students to be introduced to people active in the church in a new way.
The actual date of "Confirmation Sunday" changes each year due to scheduling the Bishop's visit, but it normally occurs in mid-May to early June. The student who choose to be confirmed and join the church would do so on this Sunday.
All members of the class are required to have regular attendance at our church, and to attend a youth program of some sort (not necessarily here at Good Sam)
Starting in 2011, we began requiring all members of the Confirmation Class to give their testimonies on a Sunday night near the end of the class (mid-to-late May). This was a huge blessing - not only to those who gave the testimonies, but also to those who came to hear them. It is a wonderful way to have the students put their faith in their own words.
