![]() Pastor Sherry Adams The Story:
Sherry credits her grandmothers with having taught her to love God and to seek His face. Both were women of great faith who were very active in their respective churches. She did not become an Episcopalian until 8th grade when she was invited by a friend to an EYC activity. It was then that she grew to love the Episcopal liturgy. However, as a student at the College of William and Mary in the late 60's, she turned her back on organized religion. It was not until the birth of her son, David, in 1975, that she returned to church, realizing she needed God’s help to raise a child properly.
Fr. Greg has introduced Sherry as someone who has come to ordination later in life, as a kind of “midlife career change.” She had previously worked as a high school teacher (social studies) before becoming a licensed psychologist. It was while practicing as a Christian therapist that Sherry heard God’s call to ordained ministry. “I honestly told Him I thought I was too old and had had too much schooling to want to attend seminary...but He called me and I knew enough not to say “no” to the Lord!”
Sherry graduated from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry in December of 2001, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 9th at St. John’s Cathedral in Jacksonville, Florida, by Bishop Stephen H. Jecko. Her passions are teaching and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, pastoral counseling, and intercessory prayer. She has been on staff since May 15, 2002, as “Associate for Pastoral Care,” and hopes to further develop women’s ministries and outreach ministry to the poor, to strengthen the prayer ministry and the pastoral response ministry, and to get to know the parishioners of Good Samaritan. So far, she is impressed with the friendliness and kindness of the people of Good Samaritan.
